Hundreds of people attended Friday morning the funeral of Yossef Cohen hy “d, one of two NCOs murdered Thursday by a terrorist near Guivat Assaf. The young soldier was part of the Orthodox Netsa’h Yehuda Battalion linked to Na’hal Ha-‘Haredi.
Rav Eliyahu Meirav, father-in-law of the soldier (his mother’s second husband), a former kibbutznik and an orthodox fighter, delivered a particularly poignant prayer, calling in particular for love and unity among all sections of the population.
Among the very emotional assistance coming from all walks of life was the journalist Daniel Haïk who gave a thought that deserves to be shared:
“I attended the funeral of Sergeant Yossef Cohen hy” d. One of the most poignant burial ceremonies I’ve ever seen, Orthodox hugging soldiers, crooked kippos crying alongside black kippos. Former religious singing ‘Ani Ma’amin’ with ‘bi-tshuva hozrim’. And very strong messages of unity of the people of Israel expressed by the father-in-law of the soldier and brigadier-general Rav David Zini.
